Photo Flash lets a patron send a photo or short video from pub.ihnyc.affectivetech.com/up for possible display in the room. DJ Mode is a protected Pub operating mode that lets an authorized operator supervise review and playback during an event.
Before uploading
Only submit media that you created or have permission to share in a public venue. Everyone visible should reasonably expect the image or video to be displayed. Do not upload sensitive, intimate, illegal, harassing, or identifying material that could put someone at risk.
A submission is not private
If approved, it can appear on a large screen in a shared room. Removing it later cannot undo photographs or recordings made by people in the venue.
Patron flow
- Choose a supported photo or short video. The page says whether the DJ reviews each upload first.
- Preview it before sending.
- Select Send to the wall. A quick automated check runs first; if it asks you to confirm, complete it.
- Read the result. Sent for DJ review means an operator reviews it before it can join the wall queue. Approved and queued means review is off and it joined the queue. A video may first be converted for the projector.
Approved media is prepared for brief display. Rejected media is removed.
An operator can turn on auto-approve for an event, which sends uploads straight to the wall queue. Uploads still pass the same file checks and conversion, but no person sees them before they can play. Operators can turn auto-approve off or remove an item at any time.
YouTube visual requests
The same page can send a link to one public YouTube video for the projector. Requested videos always play muted. An operator reviews each request unless auto-approve is on for video requests. Unreviewed requests expire, and request records are deleted within 15 days.
DJ credits
When an operator turns it on, the projector shows an On the decks card with each DJ’s photo and name. DJs added ahead of time stay hidden until the card is switched on, and their photos are re-encoded without location data before display.
Operator responsibilities
- Keep moderation enabled unless the event has active, responsible supervision.
- Review the full preview, not only a filename or thumbnail.
- Reject content that lacks consent, violates venue policy, or creates a safety concern.
- Stop playback and remove an approved item when circumstances change.
- Treat technical request metadata as security information, not as a tool for identifying or profiling patrons.
Media preparation
The service validates the upload and creates a projector-safe version when conversion is needed. An item does not enter the ready queue until preparation succeeds. A file that is unsupported or cannot be converted when it is sent receives an error; a video that fails conversion later is not shown.
Storage and retention
The service records the media, its review state, timestamps, and request details used for security and troubleshooting: network and browser information and a random browser token, stored in hashed form, that can link repeat submissions. These details are short-lived security clues rather than proof of who sent something, and only authorized Pub operators can access them.
Uploaded media and its request details are automatically deleted within 15 days of submission. An authorized operator may reject or remove media sooner. Pub keeps a limited history record after active media is deleted so operators can account for the submission and its outcome. Temporary copies may remain in provider backups or caches as described in the Privacy Policy.
